The Training Subsidy Program (TSP) provides $$$ to support CADA/West members' pursuit of personal, professional and artistic achievement.

The program subsidizes training in all dance forms, as well as active body conditioning and special training undertaken to pursue dance contracts.

December 10th was our last intake of TSP's for the April 2023 - March 2024 fiscal year as we have fully utilized our annual funds available for this program.
Once the new fiscal year starts April 1, 2024 and you have renewed your membership you will be able to access the TSP funds again.

Deadlines

Submissions are due the 10th of the month, 5pm PST

Receipts may pre-date submission by two months—e.g. the May 10 deadline accepts receipts for March and April. Receipts older than two months are not eligible.

Eligible training, limits & locales

Drop-in classes are reimbursed up to $10/class, up to $120/month

E.g. if you have a receipt for $17, you’ll receive a reimbursement of $10. If you have another receipt for $5, you’ll receive the full $5 back.

All forms of dance, as well as Capoeira, Gyrotonic, Pilates, yoga, Itcush, Feldenkrais and other active body conditioning qualify

Cards of five classes or more are reimbursed to 50% of the cost, up to $120/month

Gym and studio memberships are reimbursed to 50% of the monthly cost, up to $120/month

For gym memberships, we require a written paragraph in the first month only, to be attached to the submission, explaining how this training contributes to your dance career

Rehearsal hours are not applicable

Single-day [4 hours or more] and multi-day workshops and intensives are reimbursed to 50% of the cost, up to the annual limit of $600/year [professional] or $500/year [emerging]

All forms of dance, as well as Capoeira, Gyrotonic, Pilates, yoga, Itcush, Feldenkrais and other active body conditioning qualify

Special training (voice, theatre, martial arts, aerial, etc.) undertaken to pursue dance contracts may be eligible for reimbursement up to $200/year

Please include a short letter in the submission form outlining how the training is applicable to your employment as a dance artist

We reimburse eligible training to the total annual limits of $600/year [professional] or $500/year [emerging]

The TSP program year runs from April 1–March 31, in conjunction with our Membership year

In-person training anywhere in so-called Canada is eligible
Online training anywhere in the world is eligible

Please note: We can only reimburse in Canadian dollars—e.g. if the receipt is for $5 USD, we can only reimburse $5 CAD. Best to try and have your receipts converted to CAD.

Activities including international in-person classes and workshops; passive body work (massage, cranial-sacral, physiotherapy, etc.); teacher training courses; pre-professional programs; and conference fees are not eligible for TSP

Re: receipts from Harbour Dance... their credit/cash receipts are not sufficient. Please ask for a record of your classes or login to your account through their website and submit these forms.

Emergency measures

Please note that TSP training eligibility and program limits have been increased in response to restrictions due to the global pandemic.

Initiated April 15, 2020, these emergency measures were increased October 1, 2020 and will be extended through to March 31, 2023. CADA/West reserves the right to reassess these measures after this date.
