Submissions open: January 25, 2022
Submissions deadline: March 8, 2022
COVID-19 Update
Please note that accommodations will be made for health and safety protocols in the studio as necessary. Residencies would begin in April 2022 at the earliest and may be delayed until the Fall of 2022.
About
This program is intended to be a space for BIPOC identifying artists to play and explore their own practices, as well as experiment with tools and processes that they feel best honours who they are and how they want to connect.
This residency provides movement artists of any type with a paid period for engaging with their practice, including access to free studio space and opportunities to discuss art with other residency artists. CADA/West’s mission is to facilitate a process where artists define how they want to work while CADA/West provides support based on the artist’s needs and desires.
Eligibility
- An artist/group with an interest in working with movement of all types
- Artists must reside within BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba or the Yukon
- Open to all levels of experience
Benefits
- A flat fee of $1,800 ($30/hour up to 60 hours), includes 40 hours studio access and 20 hours outside of studio time
- Opportunities to access support for grant-writing, application process or other administrative support through staff at CADA/West
- Access to a small contingency fund for travel or materials
Note: CADA/West does not offer writing the grants themselves but can offer support such as feedback, assistance with budgeting and support letters.
Obligations
- Maintain a consistent engagement schedule during the tenure of the residency period.
- Engage in private discussion events with peer residency artists and CADA/West staff.
- Maintain bi-weekly communication with CADA/West staff.
- Provide feedback to CADA/West on the residency experience at predetermined intervals throughout the process.
Selection Process
We will be focusing on applicants who can clearly demonstrate the benefit that this opportunity will provide to them. Being able to cite further opportunities and connections to a bigger picture will be given priority. The selection committee will be CADA/West staff: Victor Tran/Savage Rock, Deanna Peters/Mutable Subject, and Jessica Wadsworth.
Notifications
Submissions will be juried and notifications sent out approximately four weeks from the deadline. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by mid-March 2022.
